Irrigation Systems Atlanta

To trench in your new irrigation system or not to trench, that is the question. Trenchless installation of an irrigation system isn't complete trenchless but does leave less visible trenches. Trenching of an irrigation system allows to ensure that the environment of the pipe is free of rocks and debris. This allows for a more stable environment and thus can lead to longer life and lower maintenance of your irrigation system. Trenchlines usually disappear in less than one season depending on when you choose to install the system. If you install before the grass is out of dormancy, it will recover before the end of spring. Later, will take longer.

Irrigation Leaks & Repair Atlanta

Notice a spike in your water bill? It could be a slow leak in your irrigation system such as a head draining, valve leaking or small pipe break. Not all leaks are obvious like this picture. So if you notice a spike in your water bill, be sure to have your irrigation system looked at once you've eliminated inside issues such as a running toliet. Most water companies will take an average of your bill once you've made the appropriate repair and can show the repair bill.

New Irrigation Systems

When getting quotes for a new irrigation system there are many things to consider. Is the system properly designed? What type of equipment is being used? Are the state requirements for backflow prevention and rain sensors being met? What is the irrigation companies reputation? Will they be here for me to back my warranty in case of a problem? These items, above price, are the most important things to consider. It's great to get a cheap irrigation system but if you are efficiently using water, protecting your family with backflow prevention and if something goes wrong, can get the irrigation system fixed, then you might just wished you'd paid more so you have peace of mind.

Atlanta Irrigation Repair

Repairs to your irrigation system should always be completed in a timely manner. It is important to use an irrigation repair company that is famaliar with and has the experience to fix any system. Lastly, comparable or upgraded equipment from what is existing should always be used. Make sure you ask your irrigation repair technician this question so that you are not paying for repairs that will "lower" the overall quality of your irrigation system.

Atlanta Irrigation Companies

There are 'Irrigation Best Practices' issued by the Irrigation Association. These are the guideslines that all Atlanta irrigation companies should follow as closely as possible when installing or repairing an irrigation system. Many things I blog about come directly from that so it's not my opinion, it's what should be done. Since Georgia doesn't have licensing for Irrigation Contractors, this makes following these recommended practices even more important.

Be sure that your irrigation company get's the public utilities marked by the Utilities Protection Center ("Call Before you Dig, 811") and you should also make sure that any private utilities (gas lines for lights, lighting, dog fences, drain linesm, etc.) are marked for your irrigation installation company. be sure that in the event of damage to the private utilties there is a written contract about who is responsible.

Be sure that when you award an irrigation company in Atlanta your new irrigation system installation that you understand the complete scope of work. Are there any permits required, are those fees included? Is any landscape restoration included, if so what specifically? Things of that nature are very important so that you know exactly what to expect when your new irrigation system is completed.

Irrigation Leaks & Repair Atlanta

After the thaw, we would recommend that if your irrigation system wasn't winterized that you run-thru your irrigation system to see if there are any broken pipes or sprinkler heads. Getting those types of items repaired now will prevent further damage and also get you ahead of things for spring watering and planting.

You, the customer, have the main role is making sure that your irrigation system is working properly. You can do this by simply watching the system run - looking for heads that needs adjusting, areas that seem overly wet or dry, obvious leaks. By taking an active role just visually observing your system, you can help save yourself $$$.

For proper and uniform distribution of watering and to avoid wet/dry spots, the sprinkler heads in your new irrigation system should be properly spaced and reach "head to head" to ensure that you don't have any overly wet or dry spots. Ask your irrigation company if you are not sure about the placement of your new sprinkler heads. Sometimes in unsually shaped areas placement of sprinkler heads do not look correct to the untrained eye. So be sure to ask because sometimes sprinkler nozzles and adjustments are what is planned to ensure "head to head" coverage.

When you are considering a new irrigation system also look at the possibility of getting a separate irrigation meter thereby saving you sewer rates on the landscape watering. Some areas such as Coweta county require separate meters and others don't even offer them.

Once you have decided to get an new irrigation system and decided on an irrigation company in Atlanta for installation of that irrigation system, be sure that all aspects of the irrigation system are explained to you. Location of your irrigation shut off valve, sensors, valves and heads are of the utmost importance. Also, be sure that your irrigation controller is programmed for the specific needs of your landscape and to supplement rainfall. If you have steep landscape, ask about setting a program for cycle and soak - meaning running shorter times for more cycles to prevent runoff and therefore water waste.

New Irrigation Systems

If your planning a new irrigation system around a landscape plan, be sure that your irrigation company follows these guidelines:
(1) Take into account the expected size of plants (meaning placement of heads should take this into account). Otherwise, those heads may have to be moved later.
(2) Be sure the irrigation system is planned for a minimum of a 3 year establishment period for shrubs and 10 year establishment for trees from an irrigation perspective.

New Irrigation System Sprinkler Heads

It is very important that the sprinkler heads selected for your new irrigation system be placed properly and that they are the right type for the landscape you are watering. Also of importance is the nozzle in those sprinkler heads that dictates the actual amount of water being put on your landscape. Your new irrigation system should never contain a mixture of rotors and sprayers on the same irrigation zone. Mixing of rotors and sprayers causes severe uneven watering because the rate of water flow is so different between those two types of sprinkler heads.

Irrigation Systems Atlanta

Today I want to blog about the importance of proper separation of irrigation zones. Different plant types, soil types, and landscape layouts require different amounts of water. Combining grass and annuals into one irrigation system zone will give uneven watering. Meaning one area gets too much and one not enough. It is important that the irrigation system design plan takes into account the differences in these areas that it will water. Tomorrow, importance of proper heads & placement.

New Irrigation System

Thinking about a new irrigation system for your new landscape? Be sure that your irrigation company not only looks at the landscape plan but checks out the property to gain knowledge of site conditions (slope, soil, etc.) as well as checking your static water pressure and flow rate. Failing to check all these things before installing a new irrigation system could result in an inefficient, water-hogging sprinkler system.

The Irrigation Associations "Irrigation Best Management Practices" provides that "the irrigation system shall be designed to be efficient and UNIFORMLY distribute the water." We see so many systems on the repair side of our business that are designed improperly. Design is the first cruicial step to assuring that you have an irrigation system that works properly. Anybody can throw pipe in the ground and call it irrigation, an irrigation professional does so much more.
