Irrigation System Atlanta
I bet you've already noticed the price of gas increasing at the pump! Did you know crude oil prices not only affect gasoline prices but the price of any crude related products such as PVC? The price of PVC could affect the cost of your irrigation system. If you've been considering a new irrigation system, this is one more reason that this is the time to install it.

Irrigation System
Do you know how important backflow prevention is on your irrigation system? Think about it like this: you fertilize your lawn, plants, etc. This seeps into the ground and can get into your irrigation lines. So, without a device to prevent that water from "backflowing" into your drinking water, you could end up drinking fertilized water which wouldn't be good. If you have a system installed after 2005, the law in Georgia says you should have backflow prevention. Check to see that you do as many systems don't particularly those installed as part of a builder package.

Irrigation Systems Atlanta
If you are considering a new irrigation system this spring, the best time of year to do the irrigation system installation is before the final frost when most warm weather grasses are still dormant. This will allow your irrigation system to be installed via trenching which will give the irrigation pipe the most stable enviroment and also allow your lawn to recover more quickly. This picture is of a yard in May where the new irrigation system was installed in February.

Irrigation System Maintenance Winterization
Most irrigation companies in Atlanta offer maintenance contracts to maintain your irrigation system just like your landscaper keeps your lawn maintained. An irrigation maintenance contract is an excellent way to be sure your irrigation system stays in tip top shape and are often less expensive than separate services.

Irrigation Winterization
While most irrigation system pipes should be below the frost line in Georgia, it is still important to have your irrigation system winterized because you never know what kind of winter we are going to have here in Georgia. Particularly important are you valves because while they are underground they are still exposed and those connection points have a tendency to be the first area of breaks after a cold winter.

With rain in the forecast, we thought this was a good time to remind you that you don't have to manually cut off your system each time there is rain expected. If you have a rain sensor on your irrigation system, which has been required by law since 2005, it will take care of that for you. It's an expensive way to ensure that your irrigation system is doing what's its supposed to - supplementing the rainfall.

Look for a controller that will meet your current needs as far as number of stations (zones) and sensor capability (rain, freeze, solar sync, etc.). Also be sure to consider whether or not you plan any future expansion of your irrigation system. A great solution if you're unsure about expanding your irrigation system in the future is a modular controller from Hunter or Rainbird.

Your irrigation system can be repaired or upgraded, heads moved, replaced, etc. prior to winter shut-down so that when you start your system up in the spring your irrigation system will be ready to go. Since spring is our busiest time of the year, you may have to wait several days or even a week or more to get on most irrigation companies' schedules. Outdoor Lighting - Landscape Lighting
If you are thinking about installing outdoor landscape lighting, not only for security, but because it will make your home look incredible at not, be sure to consider the quality and warranty of products before you make a decision.
While products from DIY stores are very inexpensive, they do not have the warranty or quality of a product offered by a contractor. Many lights offered by contractors have up to a 15 year warranty (no less than 5 in most cases). While you will spend more upfront, you will get a longer life system choosing a contractor grade outdoor lighting.

Irrigation Winterization
So you don't think you need to winterize your irrigation system? At least do these couple of things, shut off the water. Run your system for about 30 sec to clear as much water as possible. Unplug your controller. You aren't fully protected as you would be with a professional winterization but it's better than nothing. If you don't have a separate shut off for your irrigation system, your system is really at risk in the winter because water remains in the pipe. Consider having a shutoff installed.

It's been a while since I've blogged about this topic but it seems I need to do so again. About 5 years ago the state said you must install a backflow prevention device and rain sensor. Backflow prevention is super important for the safety of your family and the drinking water supply in general. This photos is of a double-check backflow device which is provides the best protection for your irrigation system and is testable. Many places south of Atlanta require these types of backflow devices and annual testing for your protection.

Proper Irrigation Wiring
We had to re-wire an entire irrigation system put in by a builder that used improper wiring for the whole system. Fortunately, it was a large irrigation system so it wasn't expensive for the new homeowner. I've seen many things in my years but telephone wire for irrigation wire is a first. I'm sure there was a logic but we believe at Millenium Irrigation that you do things the right way not the half way.

Irrigation System Repairs
We are often asked "if one of my valves is bad aren't the others soon to follow?" Well, on an older system with all the same valves it is quite possible but not absolute. With newer systems, there is no way to tell whether or not just because one irrigation valve went bad another one will follow suit. I've seen valves last fifteen years or more. So the answer is one of those unsures.

Irrigation Backflow - Sound alike but are different
Irrigation backflow is not only required but super important. You should be sure that you are getting the highest protection for your family via a double-check backblow prevention device. Dual check backflow prevention devices, while they have similar sounding names, do not afford the highest protection are not meant to be used in toxic prevention situations. Think about it like this to understand the importance...everything seeps into your yard, for example, fertilizer, often ends up in your irrigation water. Do you want that in your drinking water too? Backflow prevention is how you keep that from happening. No mention of backflow by your irrigation company in Atlanta...it's state law.

Separate Irrigation System Meter
A separate irrigation meter - when the cost is reasonable - will save you money on your irrigation system watering cost. Some counties even require separate irrigation meters at a reasonable cost while others do not. The primary difference is that your pay non-sewer rates on a separate irrigation meter......

Irrigation Systems & Backflow Prevention
I haven't blogged about this subject in a while but feel it would be prudent to do so now. Know the differences between a dual check and double check device and which one affords the most protection for your family. Here's a clue: many communities & counties south of metro Atlanta required and test double check backflow prevention devices.

We were able to reduce some of the water banging around adjusting the flow control on his valves, however, a pressure reducer is in order. With most of the water pressure in Atlanta being so high, it is prudent to pressure reducers in at installation in many cases.

Irrigation Atlanta
As we finish up our one of our new irrigation installation projects, I wanted to remind you guys how important "service AFTER the sale" is. We have some customers who called over the weekend with a newly installed system with a warranty. Their controller is dead for whatever reason. They have called numerous times and no one has called them back. Now they have called us and we are going to try to help them out but it should be done totally free under their warranty. So keep in mind when choosing an irrigation company in Atlanta for your new irrigation system the importance of Service After the Sale.

Atlanta Irrigation System Repairs
Trying to water a steep hill in your yard with your irrigation system? Try reducing the time and watering more times per day that way your water bill doesn't go up and your lawn has time to absorb the water that is normally running off.
And, does that sprinkler head at the bottom of the hill leak and lose a lot of water? Try replacing it with a head that has a check valve. You could save $$$.

Wet Spots/Dry Spots - Irrigation System
You have an irrigation system right? You notice some really wet spots and some really dry spots. First check coverage and make sure its head to head (meaning on sprinkler head to another) then ask yourself this? Are there variations in sun exposure in that area? If so think about a Smart Controller that allows you to program in shade/sun, soil, plant type, etc. to help with less over watering and watering more efficiently overall.

Irrigation System Repairs
Taking care of your irrigation system and irrigation system repairs is like doing maintenance on your car....for the longevity of your irrigation system it is important that you have a qualified, experienced irrigation company make your repairs (and ask about a warranty on the work too).
Irrigation System Atlanta
So you're thinking about a new irrigation system? Remember, warranty on your system is important but it is more important that whomever you choose can back up the warranty. We've gotten a lot of phone calls lately for system repairs where the customers thought they were protected by a warranty and they were given one. Unfortunately, the company and/or people who installed their irrigation system can no longer be found. Time in business and local or community ties seems to be the most indicative of being able to back up a warranty.

Keep an eye on your system!
You need to do a regular maintnence check on your irrigation system. If your sprinklers aren't kept in great condition, they could be wasting water as well as having detrimental effects on your lawn!
Here is a sprinkler maintnence checklist:
Sprinkler Maintenance Checklist
Once a month, turn on each valve of your sprinkling system during daylight hours and
perform an inspection. Some automatic timers allow you to set a test run, or you can
program each station to come on successively for one minute. Check the following:
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
-Is any water being sprayed on the street or sidewalk?
-Are there obstructions preventing the water from reaching the desired areas?
-Are there any observable leaks or breaks in the pipe?
SPRINKLER HEADS
Are any heads…
-missing?
-broken?
-clogged?
-pushed too far into the ground?
-tilted or spraying in the wrong direction?
PRESSURE:
Is the pressure…
-too low?
(spray is not reaching all desired areas, spray is forming large water droplets, there are
doughnut shaped dry areas, rotor speed is too slow, rotors are not rotating)
-too high?
(spray is overshooting desired areas, spray is misting and there are dry areas between
heads, rotor speed is too fast, rotors are not rotating, heads are leaking)

Why dirt piles after my pipe is laid for my new irrigation system?
When you chose the trenching method for your new irrigation system installation, we go through a several step process to ensure that you don't have ruts in your yard or "sinking" trenchlines. Once the dirt is compressed, by hand and machine, and raked up again, we like to naturally allow the trenchline dirt to fall into place over 2 weeks or so following installation. Doing so makes sure that you don't have ruts in your yard. When you chose trenchless installation the method is different. While it will look better, we feel that we can provide a more stable environment for your irrigation pipe via trenching. Check out our for an awesome before and after 2 months post-installation to see what it will really look like.

New Irrigation System
If you are thinking about a new irrigation system, be sure that your irrigation company properly designs your irrigation system to provide even and uniform watering. Proper design of your irrigation system is the first step towards assuring a efficient irrigation system.
Tip to increase efficiency of your irrigation system
Tip #1: Make sure that your irrigation system is evenly distributing water. Make adjustments at least each year and move heads, if necessary, to ensure even watering is evenly maintained for growing plants.
Irrigation Repair Atlanta
When you make contact with an irrigation company for irrigation repair atlanta, be sure to ask the irrigation company what all is included in their service fee or first hour of service. Does it include adjustments? Re-programming your controller?
Don't be fooled by irrigation companies in Atlanta that claim "no service fee" as they usually have a one hour minimum charge that exceeds the service fee that other irrigation companies charge.

Irrigation Repair Atlanta
Ask your irrigation repair company to do a through run-thru of your system and check for those components that will help your system work more efficiently and thereby reduce your water usage. Since over 58% of our water usage goes towards watering your landscape, simply things such as an inexpensive Rain Sensor can increase the efficiency of your system. Also, there are many ET systems and smart controllers out that in some cases can save you 30-50% on your water bills.

Updating your old irrigation system
Whether your system is 5, 10 or 20 years, there has been much improvement in water efficient technology that could help save you money each watering season. Updating an irrigation system is important for the longevity of your system as well. Consider this: you change your car's oil and filter so it will last longer...your irrigation system should be treated the same!

Irrigation in Peachtree City
Today we will start a customized irrigation system in Peachtree City. The customer is having their entire yard re-done and landscaped. Irrigation is a huge part of this landscape. If you're considering irrigation for your irrigation project, make sure your irrigation company coordinates their efforts with those of your landscaper. Also, don't forget it is important to have your irrigation installed first based around your landscape plan to avoid any possible disruption of the newly installed landscape.

Install Irrigation in Atlanta
After many repair calls last week, I am once again reminded of the importance of selecting a knowledgable contractor to install irrigation in Atlanta. While cost is often a factor in getting an irrigation system, you should be sure your system is meeting the minimum requirements of your county, muncipality or state. Also, don't forget about the importance for safety's sake of a backflow prevention device. To add backflow prevention later is much more expensive than doing so at the time your irrigation system is installed.
Irrigation Rain Sensor
After the rain yesterday here in Atlanta, it once again reminds me of the importance of irrigation rain sensors. This is a small investment in saving water in the event of a sporadic shower or rainfall. How many times have you seen a sprinkler system running during the rain? Have you wondered why that is happening? Most likely because that system doesn't have a rain sensor. If you don't have one, I encourage you today to inquire about getting one with an irrigation company in Atlanta. Not only will it save you money, save water waste but will help to conserve water as well.

We are very busy today with a wide variety of jobs going on from installs to system restorations. The long period of time without using systems has caused many systems to need more work than normal and then factoring in the extremely cold winter...well you guessed it!

New Irrigation System in Atlanta
If your thinking about a new irrigation system in Atlanta be sure to ask the following questions: how long is my warranty and what does it cover? how long have you been in business? what type of products will you be using? do you provide backflow prevention? do you install a rain sensor? will there be a separate shut-off valve? So many companies don't take the time to tell you guys about your system and your spending a large sum of money for it so they should. If they don't ask them!
Sprinkler Repair Atlanta
Not only is it important to give your irrigation company as much information as possible about your irrigation system when scheduling them to come out to repair your system but ask if they provide you with any kind of warranty. Also, don't be fooled by irrigation companies in Atlanta that claim to have "no service fee" as more often than not they have a one hour minimum that exceeds most companies service fees with no minimum.

Today we will finish our Peachtree City project and being and complete another irrigation installation in McDonough. Our McDonough project is 4 zones with a Hunter Pro-C controller and Solar Sync. Irrigation Repair Atlanta
July will be smart irrigation month! We are looking forward to promoting smart, efficient irrigation practices even more than usual. With the rain moving in and Saturday & Sunday being watering days under our odd/even watering....it brings this thought to mind...do you have a rain sensor? Did your system water this morning or did you manually cut it off? If the answer to the last two questions are no, you need to get a rain sensor. Not only is it required it will automatically shut of your irrigation system when it rains.
New Irrigation System in Peachtree City
Rain Rain..wash the pollen away! Our project in Peachtree City has been delayed by the rain. It is about 60% completed and our guys are getting some much needed rest before the busy week we have ahead. We are hopeful the rain will move out in time tomorrow for them to get a little more done and finish up on Monday so that we can stay on schedule for our next new irrigation system.

Irrigation Repair Atlanta
To meet the increasing needs of our customers, we are adding an additional service technician for this season. The greatest demand for irrigation repair Atlanta is still what we are calling a system restore which are those systems that have been virtually unused during the last couple of years. We are also receiving a lot of calls for people looking to expand or add-on to their existing systems. When we do an add-on, if the customer's budget allows, we try to ensure that all state and/or county requirements are met as well such as backflow prevention and rain sensors.
